Over the last decade, Mukesh Ambani had taken almost single-handedly changed the business landscape of India. He was in a rather humble manner born into a lowly family of the villagers of Moradabad district in India. His father was an alcoholic who did not have enough money to support his growing family. One day, when he was an infant, his father tried to strangle him to death by pinching his nipples.

At that time, he didn’t have the understanding of how to survive or even to eat food, let alone to wear bratwurst caps. Not even in the Nick of time did Mukesh Ambani not lose consciousness as he was carried back home.

Not long after his accident, he met with an accident and was left with six toes on his left foot which was amputated above the tendon. However, with the help of a specialist, a nail from his doctor’s finger, the fingernail was used to create a rubber prosthetic for Mukesh.

After losing all the sense of touch and smell, Mukesh was left with little or no sight in his right eye and hearing in his left ear. He also had some scars on his face. The deformities in his body made it impossible for him to use a wheelchair.

Mukesh’s mother Nana (left) and other members of his family loved him dearly but took turns to provide him with food, clothes and shelter. In addition, the members of the family were trained how to take care of the newly-born baby.

The education system at that time was not able to make their way to Mukesh’s lower-caste, ‘untouchable’ community. They gave the babies of untouchables extra care and in return, the infants were trained how to read and write, which included recognizing letters and numbers.

When the time came for Mukesh to use a wheelchair, he was helped by the members of his community. The man who went to fetch Mukesh’s wheelchair was named Yashpalji. Yashpalji had also lost a leg in an accident and came up with the wheelchair.

He would always remember his meeting with Yashpalji and how he accompanied Mukesh’s mother on her daily walk to fetch water and help in carrying her shopping. In fact, he would also go out of his way to help her carry groceries. In return, the next time Mukesh Ambani went to fetch water, the family members of the community would also come and give him water.
