As the title of her new album suggests, Bey is a trendy female pop artist who also has a really simple, straightforward style and personality. She is probably one of the first ones to start an entire genre, called ‘EDM’ (electronic dance music), that most girls now dance to around the world.
Like many modern artists, this was probably created because she was trying to become as famous as Rihanna, with the minimal amount of skill and practice required. Bey’s album ‘Purpose’ contains many classic songs like ‘My Style’, ‘Belly of the Beast’, ‘Clique’Feed The Flowers’, which also showcase her relaxed, playful and friendly nature.
Her ‘Purpose’ album has four different versions, which correspond to her albums in chronological order, as if you’d have listened to them all. On the album itself, one thing is for sure: it’s easy to pick up just about any song. It’s a good combination of relaxed, cool and sexy, without sounding too confused or repetitive.
The fact that the songs are generally more laid back and fun, also means that they are easier to listen to on headphones. In fact, in many ways, the songs on the album can be called ‘instrumental’. In fact, when I listened to one track, ‘Belly of the Beast’, I had the most amazing idea for a coffee shop commercial – with the style of ‘Don’t Leave Me Now’.
On ‘Purpose’ the album does have its moments. It’s particularly good on ‘Belly of the Beast’, which is where the album starts to hit its stride and have the effect of a single.
The instrumental tracks are relatively quiet and don’t have as many amazing guitar riffs as some of her earlier singles. But the great thing about the instrumental tracks is that you can pretty much forget about them, until you find the next song which you like more, or another one that you want to listen to all the time.
While the upbeat pop songs are great, and you will find she is a skilled songwriter, there is no doubt that the style of modern beats is something she has probably been drawing on for ages. This style has inspired many of her contemporaries, such as Ariana Grande and Katy Perry.
I hope you enjoy the album as much as I did, and I wish you all the best in your career. Finally, my suggestion is: download and enjoy.
